The main purpose of this ranking is to contribute to a regional knowledge of the insurance sector in Central America, including the Dominican Republic and Panama. Methodological approach is used as the official financial statements of insurance companies that were reported to government agencies for regulation and supervision of each country. They are expressed as of December 31 of each year.
In the Dominican Republic the financial statements are to Sept. 30, 2015, so that an arithmetic estimate is made of the 3 missing months.
When the numbers were issued in the currency of each country they were converted to dollars using the official Central Bank rate in December 2014 and 2015.
El Salvador and Panama have a change par with the US dollar. Overall, the analysis of financial statements and results for 2015 show a growth sector, but lower than that observed in 2014.
In the region operates 133 insurance companies, taking into account that the law distinguishes between companies in Guatemala bonding and insurance, in El Salvador operate general insurance companies and individuals.
Finally, the of penetration rates relatively low insurance with average close to 2.5% allows the entry of new players and potential expansion of the activity of local businesses.
